Obituary

Michael “Mike” Kenneth Eugene Polaski passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 21, 1949, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to Eugene and Eugenia Polaski.

Mike grew up in Superior, Wisconsin, where he developed a lifelong love of music and became a familiar face in the local music scene. He shared his musical talents as a member of several bands, including the Emotionals, Atlantis, and Atlantis II. Music was an important part of his life and helped shape the friendships and memories he carried with him through the years.

In 1969, Mike began his military service by joining the Minnesota National Guard. He went on to serve most of his military career in the Iowa National Guard with the 234th Signal Battalion. His dedication and commitment were recognized through numerous promotions, honors, and commendations. He achieved the rank of First Lieutenant before being honorably discharged.

Mike was a successful business owner who dedicated many years to Mid Iowa Grain Inspection before retiring in 2011. In retirement, he enjoyed fishing whenever he could and discovered a new passion for rocketry. He was a founding member of the Fairfax Society of Rocketry and also became co-owner of the Cedar Rapids Titans, reflecting his entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to explore new interests.

Above all, Mike will be remembered for his quick wit, kind heart, and the warmth he extended to others. He had a way of bringing humor into a moment and leaving a lasting impression on the people around him. He was deeply proud of his Native American heritage and treasured trips “Up North” to visit his Sharlow cousins on the reservation, where he enjoyed reconnecting with family and spending time at the casino.

Mike’s greatest legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Eugenia Polaski; his stepmother, Inez Polaski; and his sister, Linda Charpentier.

He is survived by his children, Adam Polaski; Mike (Sara) Polaski; Lucas (Maggie) Polaski; and Craig Himmelright; his sister, Julie Polaski, of Arizona; his brother, Jeff Polaski, of Wisconsin; and his beloved grandchildren, Kendal Suchanek, Finn Polaski, Miles Polaski, Joe Polaski, and Mason Polaski. He is also survived by his former spouse and good friend, Terry (Jim) Langhurst.
