Obituary
Heaven just got a little rowdier as Penny Marie (Pullen) Tully, 67, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines peacefully and surrounded by her family on August 13th, 2026.
A visitation will be held August 29th from 10am-12pm at SS John and Paul Church in Altoona. Eulogy will be read at 11:45 followed by mass at 12.
Penny was born May 1, 1959, to Charles and Beverly (Allen) Pullen in Dubuque, Iowa and the world was forever changed. She had her first date with her future husband Mark who she spent 50+ years with on April 1. 1975 at the laugh olympics (what foreshadowing that was). Penny was united in marriage to Mark Tully on October 6, 1979.
Penny was one of a kind. She never met a stranger she didn't know, a party she didn't want to be at or a smile that didn't brighten up the darkest of rooms. Penny enjoyed spending time with loved ones, collecting angels, going to the casino, being the life of the party, her strong faith, a cold beer and being an overall really good human. She loved playing fantasy football, bingo, St Patrick's day and giving her granddaughter treats that she wasn’t supposed to. Penny's joyful spirit was evident to all those who knew her. To know her was simply to love her.
Penny is survived by her husband Mark Tully, daughter Lynsey (Nick) Ludwig, bonus daughter Sophia Brodie and her beloved granddaughter Caroline. Brothers Chuck (Theresa) Pullen, Steve (Sharon) Pullen, and one of her dearest friends her brother Jim (Mary Jo) Pullen along with many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Beverly Pullen, sister Patricia Wissink, In-laws John and Margaret Tully, Mike Nebel and Beth Tully.
Memorials can be made out to the family to designate at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please go out and do something you enjoy. Go to karaoke night, buy someone a beer, play a game of cards and have the best time doing it. Live your life so fully and beautifully to celebrate the way Penny lived hers. Cheers!
