Mark Atkins, 70, passed away on September 18, 2025, at Allen Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on November 26, 1954, to George and Loraine Atkins, Mark was a lifelong resident of Evansdale. He graduated from East High School in 1973 and began working as an apprentice at a local sign business. His dedication and craftsmanship led him to open his own company, Atkins Signs, where he worked for many years. In addition to his work in the sign industry, Mark served as a city council member, where he was known for his strong commitment to the people of Evansdale.
Mark also enjoyed hunting and fishing especially farm ponds with his close friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kristin; his parents, George and Loraine; and his brother, Craig.
Mark is survived by his children: Travis (Katie) Atkins of Reinbeck, IA, Andrea (Travis) Cagley of Tampa, FL, Michael (Ashley) Atkins of Parkersburg, IA. He also leaves behind six grandchildren—Emma, Julia, Lillian, Whitley, Walker, and Waylon—his four brothers, Jeff, Bill, Bob, Bennie and his special friend, Linda.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 3, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at the AMVETS in Evansdale. A private burial service will take place the following day.
